Great entertainment options you can enjoy from the comfort of your home

Spotify

If you like music, Spotify is a must-have app. With a staggering 50 million tracks on the platform, you’re likely to find hundreds of songs that strike your fancy across several decades of music, all at an asking price of $9.99 a month.

What’s more, the platform is also a great place to pick up podcasts, as evidenced by the acquisition of JRE (Joe Rogan Experience), the most popular podcast on YouTube.

Rogan is something of a cult figure online thanks to his ability to attracts guests across the cultural spectrum. With a new podcast airing almost every day, the New Jersey native hosts everyone from sports stars to evolutionary biologists and business moguls like Elon Musk. If you don’t like a guest one day, chances are you’ll find something of interesting that week. Rogan’s output is legendary

DAZN

Fans of pugilism take note: DAZN (pronounced DA-Zone) is aiming to become the premier broadcaster of fight sports worldwide.

Currently available in the US and eight other territories, DAZN apes the model set forth by TV streaming services like Netflix by offering quality content at a very low monthly price. The strategy? To sign big money fighters to exclusive deals and undercut the PPV model that has traditionally dominated boxing and MMA.

DAZN is moving with the times and their acquisition of hugely popular American boxer Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez is a clear power play.

Head over to Dazn.com to check it out.

TV streaming services

There’s never been a better time to shop around for the best TV streaming deal for you.

Netflix, Amazon Prime and Disney+ are the three frontrunners, but HBO has entered the fray with Max, the streaming platform that brings you classics like Deadwood and The Sopranos alongside other original shows and long-time favorites. The service is brand new and currently only available in the United States, but expect the platform to spread globally while acquiring yet more content.

It’s worth checking out each provider individually to see what they’ve got, but broadly speaking, Netflix has the biggest collection of films and TV, though what’s on offer generally appeals to a younger audience. Amazon Prime might well be better suited to older viewers, while Disney+ and HBO Max are likely to snap up fans of the individual brands.

As ever, do your research, though it’s worth noting that you could subscribe to all four providers for about $40 a month. Not bad.

YouTube Premium

Straddling the line between streaming service and social media platform, YouTube is an incredible piece of technology and if you’re a voracious user of the platform, you might want to consider YouTube Premium.

The advantage of Premium is chiefly twofold: one, you escape the annoyance of adverts, which regularly play at the start of videos or interrupt your viewing pleasure midway through. (Even with an ad blocker installed, YouTube still asks you to “skip ads” and you’ll be forced to click the button even though an ad isn’t playing).

Two, and perhaps more significantly, you can download videos to watch when and as you want to. This is a great option if your internet is spotty or if you’re planning a big trip outside the house and might not have access to WiFI (but want something to watch or listen to nonetheless).

It’s worth noting that Spotify, one of our picks above, also lets you download content to your phone.

In the end, the choice is yours, but there are a ton of great services to choose from, and we’ll be revisiting this topic in a few weeks to give you even more entertainment options to enjoy from the comfort of your home.
